Last week Colin was sick. Very Very sick. So sick that he couldn't even walk or talk and the doctors had NO idea what was wrong with him. he had a fever for 7 days of 103, sometimes higher. It was pretty scary to watch. 2 times the doctor's considered sending him to the hospital. In actuallity I am very glad that they didn't, considering we have THE WORST health insurance in NYS and it would have cost us thousands and thousands of dollars to get the testing done at the ER that we did in the office. Don't get me wrong, I very well would have taken him if they told me too. I was actually prepared to do it on Thursday I think it was (they all run together) But then we just went and did our blood work at the office and at a blood clinic.
This picture was taken while we were waiting for Caden to get on the bus. Keep it mind it was 70 degrees out at 8:45am, and he had on fleece Pj's, sneakers, a sweater and the hood up. Oh, and a fleece blanket on his lap. Thankfully Caden has the best bus driver in the world and offered to pick him up at home, rather then me having to get everyone in the car and drive to Stacy's. I owe him for that! It sure made it easier.
This was in the car on the way to the doctor's the first night (at 6:30pm) The sun hurt his sore eyes and he was freezing, so of course, yet another fleece blanket up to the chin and fleece PJ's under it.
This was one of the worst days. This was at the doctor's office only 14 hours after the last picture on the way to the doctor. this is when they decieded they were either going to do blood work NOW or get us to the ER. they did a throat culture and Mono testing right there, all came back negative, then send us to a blood lab for testing for Mono again, menengitis, swine, tonsilitis, and to check his white cell counts.
This is actually one of the better pictures of him. This was maybe day 2 or 3 of the fever. He was laying in his usual spot on the couch.
To give you a recap of our day. the fever started Sat. Night (5/15) and lasted until the following Sunday (05/23). I started sleeping in his bed with him that first Sunday. In the morning we had to actually CARRY him from his bed to the couch where he would lay. If he got up, he would walk to the dining room, then turn around and go back to the couch. he slept probably 18-20 hours a day. He was asleep more then awake. When awake he wouldn't talk. Just lay there staring in space. He was in pain too. Everything on him hurt. it hurt to touch him, and we could't do anything to help him. He never got dressed either, all week. At the doctor the second time they gave us an antiobotic until we found out the blood results. They came back negative, which meant what he had was viral, not bacterial, so he only got 1 dose of the med and we stopped it, since it wasn't going to do him any good anyway.
Now he is feeling so much better. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and calling to check and see how things were going. I only worked 1 full day that week and ended up using way too much of my vacation time, but needed to be home with him. It was quite scary. He is still a little "off" His body still gets tired easily, but he sure is back to his whiny overstimulated self!
