Camping with Boy Scouts - Camp Scouthaven

Last weekend we had the chance to go on a family camping weekend with our cub scout troop. Courtney isn't much off a camper, imagine that, so her and Mya stayed with Grandpa. Me, Mike and the boys, packed up and headed out at 6:30am to Freedom, NY to camp Scouthaven. It was a WET morning. It poured the entire day before and was cold and rainy the entire way there. We got there, and around 8 started setting up camp. We borrowed a tent from My mom, sleeping bags from my dad, along with  an air mattress a few camp chairs. We are very unprepared for Camping in a tent it seems. Which is a real bummer, since I love camping and would love to tent camp for a weekend at a place like Jellystone or something.

The camp itself was great. We brought our fishing stuff with us, they had a huge lake filled with fish. They also had row boats, canoes, kayaks, Basketball courts, archery, just to name a few. They had arts and crafts  set up in side as well. there was plenty to do and I had a really great time. My favorite part was playing with the huge parachute! I NEVER did that before, and everyone always talks about how much fun it is. Well, it IS fun! I want to do it again!
Here's Caden fishing. He liked to fish, but doesn't really have the patience for it. I enjoy it because it's calm, peaceful and relaxing, but Caden just wants to throw the line in, then reel it back in and throw it out again. Doesn't work well when your trying to CATCH fish.

Here's my 3 boys. Aren't they adorable?

The "alligator" in the lake. Other then the eyes, it looked really cool. I loved all the lily pads spread out everywhere. I kept telling mike to catch me one with roots, so I could bring it home and put it in our pond to grow, but we forgot.
This boy, who wasn't with our troop, caught this huge fish, with only corn on his hook!! here we are holding slimy worms, putting them on our hooks, and look at what he gets only using 2 corn kennels?! It was cool to see up close though.

Here's Colin hanging in out in the tent with his nature jar that he made in arts and crafts. It actually worked out really well, since we used it to catch all the bugs flying around inside of the tent.

This was the welcome ceremony at 9:30 Sat Morning, they welcomed us, and greeted us. Too bad it was so wet there. By the time we had our tent set up and everything unloaded and unpacked, we had ALL been through every pair of dry shoes we owned :(

Here's Mike fixing one of the fishing rods. I tool this from inside the tent, laying on our bed,.

This was the view from outside the tent, it was the boys ends of the tent, with their bed.

And why do you ask did we have bugs in our tent?? Because the zipper on the door broke OFF. It was horrible. I finally found camping clips at the trading post and used them to keep it closed. Which was a pain in the butt. We had to use about 30 of them, so every time you came in or out, it took 10 minutes to open it and another 10 to close it up again. Before we found the clips, I attempted to duck tape it, because duck tape works on everything doesn't it?? Not on tent fabric!!! *sigh* I wish.

All in all though, despite the all day rain, and cold temps, we all had a good time. Colin stayed up until around 9 so he was able to have a marshmallow at the fire. HE was looking forward to that part all day long.  Next year, we know to bring more shoes though and less clothes. It was nice to shower and sleep back in our bed on Sunday!
