Colin's First Ever Field Trip

This past fall Colin's class did a trip to Kelkenburg Farm in Akron, NY. I took the day off, so I could go with them. I try to go on a least 1 trip with the kids during the elementary years. I was able to go with Courtney in 6th grade, and Colin to this, so Caden is my next one. He's never been on a field trip yet. I am looking forward to taking one with him as well. AND I am also going to Washington DC with Courtney for her 8th grade class trip this May, both of us are pretty excited about that!  We, as a family love the quanitness of Kelkenburg, so I was really happy that his class decided to go to a Non-commercialized farm so to speak. Ever better that there are only 6 kids in his class too! We got to do a pony ride, see the chickens and other farm animals, as well as pet and hold them too. It was pretty neat to just have Chickens/roosters just walking around the barn like it was nothing. Bunnies were out of the cages, and interacted with the kids and all. Even a goat was wandering! Loved it. After that the kids got to take a horse drawn wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and pick ANY pumpking they wanted! Colin really had a great time, and it was fun for me to watch him interact with his classmates. Did I mention it was THE coldest day that day?? Oh man, it was freezing, and the first cold day at that!

This is the class picture. The light in the back kinda messed with it though. It's Ms. Megan & Ms. Renee. Along with the kiddos. Zachary, Kobe, Coiln, Tony, Drew & Derek

Col holding the Chicken. I was SO proud of him. This little guys was SO soft!

And the goat. LOL

And a pony. Colin was pretty curious about the darker brown stripe down his back.

On the hay ride. Freezing!

Riding the Pony... so serious!
This is Col's good buddy Kobe riding the pony too.

And Colin picking out his pumpking in the patch!!

The one Colin is pointing at is a Sicilian donkey. If you look, you'll see the line is actually a cross. The story is that this is the type of donkey that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, after which he was tried and crucified.

There's also a story that this is the type of donkey that Mary rode when she and Joseph went to Bethlehem where she gave birth to Jesus.

In both stories, God marked the donkey with a cross as a reward and to show the world his service.
